why there should be a HAWA

What helps us feel well changes as our lives change.

  1. 1. it changes

At one point we may need someone who listens. At another, movement, time away, or an idea that helps us see something differently. Sometimes we are simply curious about what else life might hold: a practice, a teacher, a place we have never been.

  2. 2. it is hard to choose

There is more well-being advice than ever, and it is still hard to know what is right for you. The best discoveries rarely come from an advert. They come from someone who tried it, and told a friend.

  3. 3. so, HAWA

HAWA gathers those discoveries in one place, from person to person, and leaves the choice with you. We open the door; where you walk through it is yours to decide.

what stayed with us

Small things that shaped HAWA

  1. Tushita Meditation Centre in the pines above McLeod Ganj
    Tushita, Dharamkot

    something we brought home

    Ten quiet minutes

Mornings in the pines above McLeod Ganj began with a guided sit, open to anyone who walked in. We came home with a small habit: ten quiet minutes before the day begins. It is why HAWA now keeps a daily online meditation circle with Tushita.

  2. The evening aarti on the Ganga at Rishikesh
    the evening aarti, Rishikesh

    a sentence we kept repeating

“You cannot think your way calm.”

A breath teacher said it, and it stayed: you can only breathe your way there, and let the thoughts arrive late. We have passed it on to friends more times than we can count. Some sentences travel further than any session.

  3. who would you send me to?

    • · the breath teacher, for the racing mind
    • · the monastery in the pines
    • · a sound bath by the sea
    • · that book, for the hard year
    • · and the next one…

    a recommendation we passed on

“Who would you send me to?”

For years, friends asked us the same question, and we kept a list: a teacher, a place, a book, each one tried and trusted. HAWA is that list, opened up, so that what helped one person can reach the next.

a few things we believe

Our beliefs

  1. 01.

    Every person is a country

with its own seasons. What helped you once may not be what you need now.

  2. 02.

    Curation is care

everyone here was met, not merely listed. We would rather be small and trusted than vast and thin.

  3. 03.

    Pace, never push

feeling safe comes first. You should always be free to ask, and to say not yet.

  4. 04.

    More yourself

the right guide, like the right book, hands you back to yourself. We hope you need us less, in time.

year one
the founding
circle

This first year is a year of listening. We want to learn what people find useful, which connections last, and what deserves more room. The people who join now will help shape what HAWA becomes.

What would you pass on?

  • A person whose work you value.
  • A place you still think about.
  • Something you read at the right moment.

We would love to hear about it.
