The Mind, and How to Train It

Everything in the first four articles, the diagnosis, the causes, the law of action, the long path out, comes back to a single place. The mind. For roughly two and a half thousand years, Buddhist meditators have treated the mind not as a side topic but as the whole laboratory, the thing to be investigated, understood, and eventually transformed. The claim underneath all of it is simple and quite radical: every kind of happiness, the ordinary sort and the deepest sort, comes from understanding and changing our own mind. So it is worth asking what this mind actually is.
