Part four of a five part introduction to Buddhism.

The Path: Renunciation, Compassion, and Seeing Clearly

If the first three articles were the diagnosis, this is the treatment. The path is everything we do to loosen the grip of delusion and karma and to build the causes of a stable happiness instead. The word for the teaching itself is Dharma, which carries the sense of that which protects us from suffering. A traditional image describes the Dharma as a mirror. You hold it up not to study the teaching in the abstract but to see your own mind more clearly, to notice which parts are mistaken and need correcting. The whole thing is meant to be turned back on yourself.
