( the feeling of it )

Twenty minutes of water is all it takes. The city is still there on the horizon, and it has stopped mattering.

( the story )

Twenty forested acres on Bowen Island where crystal-named cottages, a geodesic yoga dome and a cold plunge sit twenty ferry minutes from Vancouver.

Nectar is small on purpose. Ten places to sleep across twenty acres of forest — four Scandinavian-modern cottages, three 1960s A-frames rebuilt with their pine-clad angles intact, and three rooms in the Onyx Lodge — set among maple, alder and old-growth trees on Bowen Island. Days have a shape: guided meditation at eight, yoga at half past, a vegetarian breakfast of locally grown food, an afternoon practice and a long guided relaxation before dark. Meditation happens inside a geodesic dome. Sauna and cold plunge are a walk away at the Mist Thermal Sanctuary. The ferry from Horseshoe Bay takes twenty minutes, which is the whole trick of the place — genuinely remote-feeling, absurdly easy to reach.

( field notes, dawn to night )

A day here

8:00

Meditation in the dome, the forest going grey-green through the panels.

9:45

Vegetarian breakfast, slow, with the door open to whatever the weather is doing.

afternoon

The sauna, then the cold plunge, then sitting still and feeling your own pulse.

16:30

Practice again, then guided relaxation as the light goes out of the maples.

( worth underlining )

( plan your stay )

You came for a weekend and found the thing you actually needed was two uninterrupted days and a forest that asks nothing of you.

Take the early ferry.

best time to visit — Year-round. Summer brings long Pacific evenings; winter is for the sauna, the rain on the dome, and an empty island.
