The honest reality is that microbiome science, exciting as it is, remains young, that much about how to deliberately manipulate the microbiome for health is still unknown, and that the most evidence-based way to support your gut is not an expensive test or supplement but the unglamorous fundamentals: a diverse, plant-rich, high-fibre diet with some fermented foods, plus adequate sleep, movement, and stress management, all of which affect the gut too. When a product promises far more than that, scepticism is warranted.
