Luxury Wellness Retreat

( the feeling of it )

Three suites above Abel Tasman, and an infinity pool that gives you 180 degrees of Tasman Bay to think about.

( the story )

A three-suite retreat above Abel Tasman National Park with a saltwater infinity pool over Tasman Bay, an onsen hot tub and two saunas.

Split Apple Retreat takes three couples at a time. The suites — Rainbow, split-level and oceanfront; Lotus, Japanese in style; Fuji, panelled in American cherry wood — all look out over Abel Tasman National Park and Tasman Bay. Wellness here is built into the architecture rather than scheduled: a saltwater infinity pool with 180-degree views, an onsen hot tub, an infra-red sauna and a steam sauna, a massage room, yoga in the rose garden pavilion, and a meditation programme using brain-entrainment methods in an eight-seat screening room. It sits on the Tasman coast near Motueka, at the top of New Zealand's South Island.

( field notes, dawn to night )
